Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about using ZippyToolkit. Each tool page also has its own questions and answers.
About ZippyToolkit
Is ZippyToolkit really free?
Yes. Every tool is free with no account, no watermark on your files and no daily limits designed to push you into a subscription.
Do I need to sign up or install anything?
No. Open a tool in any modern browser – on a phone, tablet or computer – and use it straight away.
How many tools are there?
There are currently 45 tools, and more are added regularly based on requests. See all tools →
Can I suggest a new tool?
Yes, please do. Tell us what you need on the Request a tool page; the most-requested tools are built first. Request a tool →
Privacy & security
Are my files uploaded to your servers?
No. All current tools process files inside your web browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to us and we cannot see them. How file processing works →
Do you store anything about me?
Only small conveniences in your own browser – your light/dark theme, favourite tools and recently used tools. You can clear them any time in your browser settings. Privacy policy →
Is it safe to use with confidential documents?
Because processing happens locally, confidential documents never leave your device. As with any tool, keep copies of important originals.
Do you use cookies?
No advertising or tracking cookies. If optional Google Analytics is enabled, it only loads after you accept it. Cookies & local storage →
Files & conversions
Is there a file size limit?
There is no artificial limit. The practical limit is your device’s memory – very large PDFs or images work best on a computer.
Why does my converted Word or PDF file look simpler than the original?
PDF and Word store layouts very differently. Our converters keep text, headings and tables, but complex layouts, fonts and images may need tidying. Each tool page lists its limitations.
Can I convert scanned documents?
Not yet. Scanned pages are pictures of text and need OCR (text recognition), which is on our roadmap. Roadmap →
How accurate are the unit converters?
They use exact international definitions where they exist (for example 1 inch = 2.54 cm) and show up to 10 significant digits. Unit converters →
Can I open password-protected PDFs?
No. Our tools do not bypass passwords. Remove the protection in a PDF reader using the password, then try again.
Troubleshooting
A tool will not load. What should I do?
Refresh the page (Ctrl+F5 on Windows, Cmd+Shift+R on Mac). Use a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Very old browsers are not supported.
My download did not start.
Some browsers block downloads triggered from a page – check for a download icon or permission prompt in the address bar, then click Download again.
Do the tools work offline?
Once a tool page has fully loaded, most tools keep working without a connection. Full offline support is planned.
I found a bug. How do I report it?
Please use the contact page and tell us which tool, what you did and what happened. Never attach confidential files. Contact us →
