CSV to Excel

CSV to Excel converts comma, semicolon, tab or pipe separated files into a proper Excel workbook. Delimiters are detected automatically, numbers become numeric cells, and codes with leading zeros (like phone numbers or ZIP codes) are kept as text.

Limitations to know

  • Dates are kept as text exactly as written, because date formats differ between countries (e.g. 03/04 could be March 4 or 3 April).
  • Excel’s limit of 1,048,576 rows per sheet applies; larger files are rejected with a message.

Privacy: CSV to Excel runs entirely in your web browser. Your CSV/TSV/TXT data is not uploaded, stored or shared, and nothing about its contents is sent to analytics.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Excel break my CSV when I open it directly?

Excel guesses formats when opening CSVs: it can strip leading zeros, turn long IDs into scientific notation and misread delimiters in some regions. Converting to .xlsx first avoids those guesses.

Will special characters (é, ü, 中文) display correctly?

Yes. The tool reads UTF-8 text and writes a modern .xlsx file, which stores Unicode correctly.
